Can maggots hurt my dog?

ive been wondering if maggots could really effect my dogs health because we have flies outside in my back yard, and we found maggots in our house we cleaned it of course. but can it hurt my dog and if it can what are the symptoms of my dog ingesting maggots so i can take care of it right away if any of them do have it.
