Evolution? Not racist?

Ok so this isnt a racist question. Im curious, the people of southern india and sri lanka ect. have basically the same skin tone as the people from central and southern africa (africans or people of african descent). But at the same time there physical features are really different (hair, facial features ect.) If both ethnic groups had the same amount or almost the same amount of sun exposure in their ancestry then why do they look so different-i mean how did evolution work here? i am not racist and anybody who thinks im racist probably is a narrow minded punk but anyways i appreciate the answers
