Why does everyone in the Terminator movies shoot the robots even wehn they know the bullets don't do anything?

It doesn't make any sense that the characters in the 'Terminator' movies shoot the terminators. I don't know, maybe it's just me, maybe it's just a movie. Just thought it was interesting to point out.
